Jacob's practice focuses on patent litigation: he represents U.S. and foreign clients as both plaintiffs and defendants at every stage of a patent dispute, from pre-complaint investigation and freedom-to-operate opinions through arbitration or trial in federal district court or before the U.S. International Trade Commission and appeal at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He also represents clients in post-grant challenges before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. With a background in mechanical engineering and industry experience, Jacob speaks the technical languages of his clients. Jacob drafted patent applications, advised clients on strategies to maximize patent protection, and argued appeals at the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences (now the Patent Trial and Appeal Board). Jacob represents companies across a wide range of industries and technologies, including medical devices, office equipment, semiconductor manufacturing, mobile telecommunications, and power tools. Prior to attending law school, Jacob worked as a design engineer for a manufacturer of subsea production systems.
